Challenge/Opportunity

It had been identified that leaders had limited experience and training in management and leadership fundamentals. Essential conversations were not happening or of poor quality.  To respond to these challenges, Human Resources released an improved Performance Management program focusing on:

  • Effective conversations to enable employees to deliver results

  • Conducting regular and effective performance conversations as well as talent conversations

  • Effective conversations which build trust and maintain healthy working relationships

Solution

IECL has partnered with the Agency since 2014, adjusting the program content and structure over the years to reflect the changing organisational context, leaders' needs and the macro environment including face to face options and virtual delivery in modularised content.

Key topics include:

  • Foundations of Quality Conversations

  • Alignment Conversations for Clarity of Role and Expectations

  • Support Conversations for Accountability, Development and Adjustment

  • Breakthrough Conversations for Disagreement, Disappointment and Disengagement

Result/Outcome

Since 2014, 27 programs have taken place with 432 leaders attending.

  • 4.7/5 strongly agree what they learnt from the program will help them in their role

  • 4.6/5 strongly agree they are committed to applying what they learnt to their work

  • 4.6/5 strongly agree they will see a positive impact if they apply the learnings
