Challenge/Opportunity

  • Leaders had limited experience and training in leading people, resulting in lack of support and inability to have leadership conversations when required

  • Minimal career development conversations were being conducted

  • Leaders were time poor due to a project driven environment

Solution

A “Coaching Skills for Leaders” program focusing on:

  • Leaders conducting coaching conversations to enable employees to deliver results

  • Conducting regular and effective coaching conversations as well as talent conversations

  • Effective coaching conversations which build trust and maintain healthy working relationships

The program included a one-day workshop and half day follow up action learning sessions for embedding for a number of years. The program has been adapted for virtual delivery and delivered as a series of 5 x 90 minute Interactive Virtual Classroom sessions. Key topics include:

1: Coaching Foundations

2: Coaching Mindset & Relationship

3: GROW Model

Result/Outcome

Over recent years, 7 programs have taken place with 112 leaders attending.

4.8/5 strongly agree what they learnt from the program will help them in their role

4.6/5 strongly agree they are committed to applying what they learnt to their work

4.8/5 strongly agree the facilitator was engaging and encouraged participation

When asked to describe the most important learning participants have said:

“The value of shifting from a management to coaching approach and empowering colleagues”

“How flexible the approach is, because I thought it was only suited to some situations or problems”

“Learning about the GROW framework because this will assist in facilitated and collaborative discussion between staff and manager”
